Refurb | Reuse | Repower
Our mission
ReSolar® is the UK’s first organisation to research and develop solutions for the growing issue of waste from solar panels. With a focus on repair and reuse, ReSolar provides research into second life opportunities for photovoltaics which have developed faults. Our activities prevent solar panels from being prematurely disposed, and provide a source of affordable, renewable energy to repower households and community projects.
Applying the waste hierarchy to solar
According to the waste hierarchy, reuse should be prioritised above recycling and recovery. ReSolar conducts critical R&D to find viable solutions to make this possible.
Finding innovative solutions for damaged panels
ReSolar undertakes creative projects repairing, refurbishing and upcycling damaged solar modules, extending their purpose, and repowering communities and households.
Developing research and expertise
ReSolar undertakes cutting edge R&D with industry leaders and academic partners, to find commercially viable solutions to implement repair and reuse into the solar lifecycle.
Facilitating partnerships
ReSolar facilitates R&D partnerships between the circular economy and the solar industry. Information gained in this field allows communities to access affordable, clean energy that doesn’t cost the earth.
Limiting the carbon footprint of solar
ReSolar’s R&D programme keeps solar panels in circulation for longer, reducing the impact of their embodied carbon associated with manufacturing, transportation and disposal.
Reducing the cost of solar
ReSolar is pinoeering a cost-benefit analysis of reuse and repair on behalf of the solar waste industry. Households, communities and solar farms are invited to participate in this study.
